I suppose it's a good idea to introduce myself. Hello, my name is Yoon. I am a junior at Sage Hill School aspiring to become an architect. As for architecture, it is probably safe to say that I am the first one in my family to be interested in this field. That means I have no background knowledge whatsoever in the field. For the last handful of years my experience of the architecture, other than being in buildings myself, was through books and online searches. I did have a chance to do a construction site visit and an informational interview with a couple of current Sage Hill parents last year, but nevertheless my understanding of the architecture field remains limited.
Unfortunately, due to my commitments in school, music, and art (being a high school junior is tough), I have not had much chance to get myself away from the books and assignments that piled up this semester. Spring at Sage was an excellent opportunity for me to fill in this gap. For my Spring at Sage project, I plan to visit architecture firms, meet/shadow/interview practicing architects, interns, and students, visit colleges in the area, and basically do anything else that might broaden my exposure to the field of architecture.
Currently I have three different architects scheduled for a shadow day, and a lunch with a Sage Hill alumnus and architect. That leaves me with four more days to fill, but I am still waiting from a couple different firms, and I would also like to visit USC's architecture department on one of my free days. Now that I am done with all of my APs (whew) I can finally focus on planning out my Spring at Sage. I will come back with an updated schedule soon. Goodbye for now!
Yoon
