Project Overview

Whoohoo! Done with APs and finals! Now I can focus on my project :)

Below is the most updated version of my project overview. Phone numbers and email addresses (other than mine and Ms. Okamura's) have been left out for privacy. I am still waiting to hear back from Gensler, LPA, tBP, and Kishimoto Architects... but looks like I might actually not have enough days to accommodate all the firms, if I'm lucky! Thank you to everyone who agreed to join me on this project :)

Spring at Sage Independent Project: “Architect Want to Be”
(28 May – 6 June 2012)

Student: Yoonseo Cha (class of 2013)
 13chay@sagehillschool.org

Advisor: Donna Okamura (Visual Arts teacher)
okamurad@sagehillschool.org

Spring at Sage:  For approximately one week following AP and final exams, Spring at Sage allows students of all grade levels to pursue their passions beyond the classroom. Juniors and seniors may choose independent projects that can take place on or off-campus. These projects can take the form of an internship or intensive individual research in an area of interest. Students are required to maintain a blog or other form of public record of the evolution of their project (More information on http://www.sagehillschool.org/springatsage )

My Independent Project Objective:  For my Spring at Sage project, I plan to visit architecture firms, meet/shadow/interview practicing architects, interns, and students, visit colleges in the area, and basically do anything else that might broaden my exposure to the field of architecture.

MORE ABOUT OFFICE VISITS/SHADOW DAYS...
Office visits and/or shadow days make up a major part of my S@S project. These appointments can be either full-day or half-day, depending on the availability and convenience of the hosting architect or firm. During this time I will be following the hosting architect(s) for a full (or half) work day, observing the workspace and taking notes. This is an excellent chance for me to ask questions about the field, so will also serve a similar function as an informational interview. Visiting current or completed project sites is yet another possibility. In addition, I am interested in hearing the story of each architect I shadow/interview. If possible, I would like to see his or her high school and/or college portfolio.
